Obituary

Jeff Donald Hooker, of Vienna, was born on December 25, 1931, at Antoine, Arkansas, a son of Bill and Valier Lee (Womble) Hooker, and departed this life at 2:40 p.m., on Saturday, July 27, 2019, in the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics, Columbia. Mr. Hooker had attained the age of 87 years, 7 months, and 2 days.

Mr. Hooker was united in marriage on September 7, 1957, at St. Ann, to Rosemary Louise Hoelscher, and to this union, three daughters were born.

On February 2, 1952, at St. Louis, Jeff entered into active federal service in the Navy of the United States and served until February 1, 1956, when he was honorably discharged. During his military service, he served on the USS Hanna and was awarded and entitled to wear the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with three stars, and the China Service Medal. A man of excellent character, his "Honorable Discharge" is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to his country during the Korean Conflict.

During his working life, he had been a sign erector and an electrician prior to retiring in 1994 and moving to Vienna in 1995. He was a member of the IBEW Local 1, St. Louis, the Vienna-Coffey Brothers American Legion Post #12; and a charter member of the Tallahassee Hunting Club, Vienna. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working puzzle books.

Those left to mourn the passing of Jeff include: His devoted wife of almost 62 years, Rosemary of the home near Vienna; his daughters, Valier Igel and husband, Marty, St. Louis; Phyllis MacConnell, St. Louis; and Joyce Hooker, Vienna; five grandchildren, Katy, Robert, Kyle, Abby, and Carey; five great-grandchildren, Ainslee, Nora, Elise, Isabelle, and Baker; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill, in August of 1933; his mother, Valier, in May of 1990; brother, Gene Hooker; and sister, Eulond Hooker.

Visitation for Mr. Hooker was held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, and from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, with funeral services following at 11:a.m., all in the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna, with Rev. Karen Alden officiating.

Interment, with full military honors, was in the James Community Cemetery, Vienna, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home in Vienna.
