Obituary

Jerry William Milligan, 84, of Dixon, was born January 18, 1937, at Dixon, a son of Dr. Kenneth William and Guida Mae (Jackson) Milligan, and departed this life Friday, April 9, 2021, in Phelps Health, Rolla.

Jerry was united in marriage December 26, 1956, at First Baptist Church, Dixon, to the former Miss Wanda Lurinda Martin, and to this union, three children were born.

In 1947, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and followed his Lord in baptism. At the time of his passing, Jerry was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Dixon, was a member of the church choir, a Sunday school teacher, and was ordained a Deacon of the church March 28, 1976, until he acquired Deacon Emeritus status. For most of his working life, Jerry was employed by Alltel Telephone Company, Dixon, and at the time of his retirement in 1992, had attained the position of Engineering Plant Coordinator.

He especially enjoyed being with his family, fishing, and hunting deer, turkey, and other wild game. If he wasn't hunting or fishing, you could find him in his garage fixing anything or inventing everything. Along with these hobbies he enjoyed manicuring his lawn, spending every minute with Wanda, his grandkids and playing with his great-grandkids.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Wild Turkey Federation. Past activities included: Kiwanis Club member and the Dixon Youth Recreation Association coach.

Those left to mourn the passing of Jerry include: His wife of almost 65 years, Wanda Milligan, of the home in Dixon; one son, Daniel W. (Tammy) Milligan, Dixon; one daughter, Kerri (Craig) French, Rolla; daughter-in-law, Tracey Milligan, Nixa; his grandchildren, Jarad (Joni) Milligan, Lebanon; Niki (Jared) Kelsay, Dixon; Maggie E. French, Rolla; and Shaelyn D. Milligan, Nixa; great- grandchildren, Jara Milligan, Lebanon; and Elliet Kelsay and Kori Kelsay, both of Dixon; nephews, nieces, with greats, and great-greats as well; and other relatives and wonderful friends.

He was preceded in death by one son, Joel Brady Milligan (4-8-2018); his father, Dr. Kenneth (1-24-1966); his mother, Guida (6-11-1976); two brothers, Robert James "Doc" Milligan (10-30-1988), and infant Donald Milligan (10-25-1938); one sister, Joan Hambrick (1-14-2012; and one nephew, Robert Steven Hambrick (3-27-2016).

Visitation for Mr. Jerry W. Milligan will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 12, 2021, in First Baptist Church, 400 West Fourth Street, Dixon, Missouri 65459, with his funeral service following at 2:00 p.m., in the church, with Pastor Jack Caple of First Baptist Church, Dixon, and Pastor Charles S. "Chuck" Baker of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Richland officiating.

Interment will be in the Dixon Cemetery, under the direction of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Dixon. Pallbearers for Mr. Milligan will be Daniel W. Milligan, H. Craig French, Jarad D. Milligan, Niki E. Kelsay, Jared L. Kelsay, Maggie E. French, Shaelyn D. Milligan, and Steve Hauck, and his honorary pallbearers will be Jara G. Milligan, Elliet E. Kelsay, Kori E. Kelsay, Bronson Helton, and Brody Helton.

Memorials are suggested to the Dixon Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund with envelopes available at the church or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box EE, Dixon, Missouri 65459.
