Obituary

JoAnn Kuhn Garro, of Jefferson City, Missouri, was born on Feb. 23, 1928 in Cuyahoga Falls, OH to Charles Ivan and Zola Adolphus (Dickenson) Kuhn and departed this life on May 15, 2017 at St. Joseph's Bluffs in Jefferson City, MO. JoAnn had attained the age of 89.

JoAnn was married on Jan. 24, 1948 at Baltimore, Maryland to Frank Martin Garro who preceded her in death on May 17, 2012. In addition to her husband, JoAnn was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Charles Garro (June 13, 1949 – Aug. 23, 1966), Lawrence Martin Garro (Aug. 26, 1950 – Oct. 21, 1994), her parents, Charles Ivan Kuhn (June 3, 1896 – Sept. 30, 1943), Zola Adolphus (Dickenson) Kuhn (Sept. 28, 1902 – March 20, 1960); siblings Betty Jane Kuhn on Aug. 29, 1942; Wilma Kuhn on March 10, 2006, Charles "Chick" Kuhn on Jan. 30, 2007; and Frances Dawson on Dec. 13, 2010.

JoAnn raised six boys as a stay-at-home mom and was a military wife for twenty-three years. She went out into the workforce after the boys were grown and worked for the University of Missouri – Columbia in various capacities retiring in 1990. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Columbia, MO; was involved with PTA and numerous school activities; a cub scout den mother; volunteered at the University of Missouri Psychiatric Center (formerly known as Mid-Mo Psychiatric Center) and the Wardrobe in Columbia, MO. JoAnn enjoyed spending time with her family and was known to throw a tea party or two. She loved watching sports (especially the St. Louis Cardinals and Mizzou Tigers), and shopping for shoes. She never missed a school activity and especially enjoyed watching her sons play football.

Those left to mourn the passing of JoAnn include her children: James Andrew and Bobbi Garro of Kempner, Texas; Frank Thomas Garro and friend, Cari Babitzke of Boston, Massachusetts; Timothy Alan and Myra Garro of Belen, New Mexico; David Stephen and Lisa Garro of Vienna, Missouri; daughter-in-law Diane Garro of Cockeysville, Maryland; grandchildren Kristin Garro of Austin, Texas; Sarah and Terry Rosebrock of Kempner, Texas; Elizabeth Garro of McKinney, Texas; Christine and Randy Laughlin of Ashland, Missouri; Katy and Josh Shaffer of Columbia, Missouri; Lisa Jodi of Belen, New Mexico; La Toy Ja Panteah of Belen, New Mexico; Mylan Panteah of Grand Forks, North Dakota; Myles Panteah of Gallup, New Mexico; Nick and Brittainy Garro of Los Lunas, New Mexico; Becca Garro of Westphalia, Missouri; Rachel Garro of Vienna, Missouri; and Nora Garro of Vienna, Missouri; great-grandchildren Aden O'Bannon, Katy Laughlin, Frankie Laughlin, David Castro, Damian Garcia, Noah Panteah, Madison Panteah, Jaxon Garro, Madilynn Garro, and Jayden Garro, and special niece Carolyn "Fritz" Kuhn of Tarpon Springs, Florida.
