John David
Connors
Sep 25, 1948 — Jan 16, 2023
John D. Connors, 74, of Dixon, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 16, 2023, at his home.
John was born in White Plains, New York, on September 25, 1948, to the late John W. and Helen T. Cotter Connors. Survivors include his wife, Marge, two daughters, Karin (Loren) Wille of Kiel, WI, and Laura Connors of Laquey, MO, and two grandchildren, Jordan and Brandon Wille both of Madison, WI. John is also survived by his sister Kathy Connors, a niece, Sara (West) Bourgault, and two great nieces, Cora and Luca Bourgault, all of California.
John graduated from Brewster High School in 1968 where he was a star member of the varsity football team. In 1973 John enlisted in the United States Army and continued serving his country until 1985. John married Marge Fisher on December 22, 1975. John was stationed in Korea and Germany, and also served with the Army Corps of Engineers emergency response team that was dispatched to Mount St. Helens (Washington) after its eruption in the early 1980s. He served as an Army recruiter in Ohio and finished his military career as an SFC at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. After his retirement from the Army, John served as a rural carrier for the United States Post Office for nine years.
John enjoyed classic American muscle cars, gardening, bird feeding, surfing the web, and visiting his grandchildren. He was a proud member of Mensa and the American Legion. John had a deep love for animals and he and Marge selflessly rescued and spoiled dozens of unwanted dogs (and a few cats).
John will be laid to rest at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery Ft. Leonard Wood. There will be no services. The family wishes to thank the Pulaski County Ambulance Service for the care and compassion they showed in caring for John in his final moments. Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, LLC, is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to TNR Patrol, Inc., a nonprofit organization cofounded by John's daughter. TNR Patrol works to control the feral cat population in Pulaski County.
