John Wesley
Roberson
Oct 11, 1933 — Dec 16, 2018
John Wesley Roberson, of Dixon, was born on October 11, 1933, at Dixon, the youngest son of Floyd Clinton and Sarah Ellen (Deardeuff) Roberson, and went to be home with our Lord on Sunday, December 16, 2018, at his residence near Dixon. He had attained the age of 85 years, 2 months, and 5 days.
At the age of 8 years, John accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior in a Baptist Church in Montgomery City. He and his family lived in various small towns in Missouri until the passing of his father when John was 13 years of age. The family then moved back to Dixon where John graduated from high school in 1951.
John had joined the United States Air Force for three years, when he married the love of his life on December 20, 1952, at Salem, Arkansas, and one week after his marriage, he left for boot camp. John was then deployed to Korea and served there for one year during the Korean Conflict until honorably discharged in December of 1956. While in service, he had been promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in just three years and had served as an Air Traffic Controller. After coming home, John then made his career in Air Traffic Control at the airport located at Vichy, Missouri, prior to his retirement in 1985.
John was an active member of his community for many years, where he served on the Dixon School Board for eighteen years; served as the Dixon Municipal Judge for several years; coached several Khory League baseball and softball teams; and served as an ordained deacon in the Baptist Church since 1965.
The marriage of John and Marie was blessed with three daughters: Kathleen Marie Brandt (Karl), and Deborah Lynn Vance (Jesse), all of Dixon, and Susan Elaine Myers (Richard), of House Springs; six grandchildren, Kristen Waterman (Jason), Kody Brandt (Erin), Samuel Vance (Julie), Kaitlin King (Ryan), Cindy Simmons (Jake), and Stephanie Maddox (Taylor); sixteen great-grandchildren, Gracie and Lily Waterman, Kaleb, Blake and Karli Brandt, Leah and Cora Vance, Brycen and Briella King, Caleb, Gabe, Zach and Logan Simmons, and Sophia, Evelyn and Caroline Maddox; sisters-in-law, Martha Alexander and Josephine Roberson; nephews; nieces; and other relatives in friends.
