Johnny Ray Cox, age 59, of Springfield, formerly of Dixon, was born January 6, 1965, in Waynesville, Missouri, a son of Raymond Lee and Alice Marie (Lampston) Cox, and passed from this life Monday, March 18, 2024, at his residence.
On February 1, 1990, at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Johnny entered active federal service in the United States Army and served until July 17, 1994, when he was honorably discharged at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, at the rank of Sergeant (E5). A man of excellent character, Johnny's Honorable Discharge is a testimony of selfless and faithful service to his country.
Johnny was a graduate of Dixon High School, and after his honorable discharge from the United Stated Army, he continued his working career as a boat mechanic. He enjoyed playing music, collecting arrowheads, and cars.
Those left to celebrate the life of Johnny include: his mother Alice, of the home near St. James, formerly of Dixon; his brother, Roger Cox of Papillion, NE; two sisters, Tammy Cox of St. James, and Leasa Waters of Raytown, MO; nephew and nieces, Nolan, Kristina, and Brianne; and other relatives and friends.
Johnny was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Lee Cox on January 27, 1979.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 26, 2024, in the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, 105 E. Third Street, Dixon, MO 65459, with his graveside service to follow at 2:00 P.M., in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 25350 State Hwy H, Waynesville, MO 65583 with Pastor Danny Bassett officiating.
Memorial contributions in memory of Johnny Cox are suggested per the wishes of his family with envelopes available at the funeral home or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box EE, Dixon, Missouri 65459.
