Joseph Thomas "Joe" Mize, of Dixon, was born on January 21, 1940, at Chicago, Illinois, a son of Thomas and Florence Mary (Dobbeck) Mize, and departed this life at 10:50 a.m., on Sunday morning, December 4, 2016, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla. Joe had become ill at his home early Sunday morning and was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he later died. He had attained the age of 76 years, 10 months, and 14 days.
Joe was baptized as an infant and was a member of the Catholic faith. He had attended a Catholic Military School as a young man, which prepared him for the military as he entered the United States Army and serving his country during the Vietnam War. Through the years, Joe had especially enjoyed flying and displaying the United States Flag.
During his working life, Joe had been an Iron Worker with his specialty being welding. He had worked in welding, all over the world, during his career and was known as one of the best in his profession. He was also a member of the Iron Workers Union.
Joe is survived by his brother, Thomas Mize, Jr. and wife, Nancy, of the state of Arizona; his sisters, Eloise Roon and husband, Glen, and Joyce Giannola, all of the state of Illinois; nephews; nieces; dear friend, Pat Hogue, of Dixon; and other friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
