MR. JOSEPH "JOE" PLATT

Joseph John "Joe" Platt, age 66, of Meta, was born April 3, 1947, at Jefferson City, a son of Anthony "Anton" and Catherine (Meierpeter) Platt, and departed this life at his residence in Meta, with his family at his side, on Thursday, December 19, 2013.

Joe was united in marriage on April 19, 1980, in Meta, to Linda Wieberg. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Meta, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Jefferson City. Joe was a 1965 graduate of Fatima High School, Westphalia. Following graduation he was a truck driver for Leonard Barnhart Excavating from 1965 to 1981, and later worked for Wieberg Redi Mix from 1981 to present.

Joe was a fiddle player for a number of bands in the area, until he started his own band, The Country Strings, which was later changed to the Platt Brothers Band. He enjoyed playing music for people.

Those left to mourn the passing of Joe include: His wife, Linda Platt of the home in Meta; three daughters, JoAnn Lemport and husband, Tim, Holts Summit; Melissa Platt and husband, Jeff, Rich Fountain; and Leslie Green and husband, Matthew, St. Thomas; one brother, Francis Platt and wife, Martha, Rich Fountain; five grandchildren, Tanner Lemport, Ryan and Erika Platt, and Olivia and Samuel Green; four sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; nephews; nieces; and other family and friends.

A Prayer Service was held for Joe at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2013, in the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Meta, with Rev. Jeremy Secrist leading.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Joe at 10:00 a.m., Monday morning, December 23, 2013, in the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Meta, with Rev. Jeremy Secrist, and Rev. Ignazio C. Medina, St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Wardsville, concelebrating.

Interment was in the St. Cecilia Cemetery, Meta, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Pallbearers for Joe were Jason Platt, Mike Wieberg, Mark Wieberg, Terry Bock, Bill Heckman, and Robbie Kelley.
