Kenneth Milton Moreland, of Vienna, was born on August 16, 1927, at Vichy, in Maries County, a son of William Elmer and Gladys Mae (Cook) Moreland, and departed this life at 3:30 a.m., on Saturday, October 5, 2019, in the Maries Manor Care Center, Vienna. He had attained the age of 92 years, 1 month, and 20 days.
Mr. Moreland was united in marriage on September 1, 1951, at Pocahontas, Arkansas, to the former Rachel Margaret Thebeau.
On August 12, 1952, at St. Louis, Mr. Moreland entered into active federal service in the Army of the United States and served until August 4, 1954, when he was honorably discharged at Camp Carson, Colorado, at the rank of Corporal (CPL T). During his military career, Mr. Moreland had successfully completed training courses at the Engineer School, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, for the use of Camouflage in combat tactics and was awarded and entitled to wear the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the United Nations Service Medal with two Overseas Bars, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, and the Good Conduct Medal. A man of excellent character, Mr. Moreland's "Honorable Discharge" is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to his country during the Korean Conflict.
During most of his working life, he had been employed as a truck driver for Cassens Auto Transport Company, St. Louis, for thirty-two years, prior to his first retirement. He and his wife, Rachel, had lived on their farm near St. James before they purchased the James Resort, on the Gasconade River, near Vienna, in 1980, which they operated as Morelands Resort and Catfish Restaurant until their final retirement. In addition to being a United States Army Veteran, Mr. Moreland was a member of the Coffey Brothers Memorial American Legion Post 12, Vienna, for more than twenty-eight years, and was a life member of the American Legion.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Moreland include: Two sons, Leslie "Les" Moreland and wife, Ginger, and Robin Moreland, all of Vienna; ten grandchildren, Kelly, Sheri, Gail, Tobias, Kaden, Kayci, Doug, Joe, Tracee, and Courtney; seventeen great-grandchildren, Dustin, Russell, Kara, Lana, Kelsey, Cherie, Heather, Derrick, Joey, Tony, David, Wesley, Josiah, Jay, Emily, Lyndsey, and Katelyn; ten great-great-grandchildren, Harper, Liam, Layla, Ahri, Easton, Teagan, Adelynn, Koralynn, Maebri, and Brennen; his siblings, Bernice Jones and husband, Wally, of Rolla, Wayne Moreland and wife, Joy, of Savage, Minnesota, William "Bill" Moreland and wife, Iris, of Wesco, Jim Moreland and wife, Helen, of Vienna, Margaret Feeler of Rolla, Janet Roach and husband, Bob, of Rolla, and Don Moreland and wife, Stephanie, of Tipp City, Ohio; sister-in-law, Glenda Davis, of St. James; nephews, nieces, with greats and great-greats as well; many other relatives; and a host of friends. Mr. Moreland will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel, on December 6, 2015; one daughter, Shirley Mae DiNatale, on October 29, 2010; one son, James Michael Boyster, on July 16, 2016; two grandchildren, Taylor Marie Moreland on July 17, 1994, and Rob Boyster on July 14, 2015; one great-grandchild, T.J. Hayes, on March 8, 1990; one brother, Robert "Bob" Moreland, on October 16, 2015; and one brother-in-law, Julius "June" Feeler, on March 16, 1997.
Visitation for Mr. Kenneth M. Moreland will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, and from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, October 10, 2019, in the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, 406 South Main Street, Vienna, Missouri 65582.
Funeral services will be conducted for Mr. Kenneth M. Moreland at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, October 10, 2019, in the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home Chapel, 406 South Main Street, Vienna, Missouri 65582, with Pastor David Godat, Mercy Ministries, St. Clair, officiating. Music for the service will be "I Can Only Imagine", "How Great Is Our God", and "God, You Reign".
Interment for Mr. Moreland will be next to his beloved wife of sixty-four years, Rachel, in the James Community Cemetery, near Vienna, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home in Vienna. Pallbearers will be Joey DiNatale, Kelly Boyster, Jeff Hayes, Jim Godat, Derrick DiNatale, Tobias Moreland, Kaden Moreland, Aaron Cohlmia, Dustin Boyster, and Russell Boyster, and honorary pallbearers will be Doug DiNatale, Joe DiNatale, Easton Blair, Teagan James, Chad James, Tony Dinatale, Liam Cohlmia, Brennen Prenger, Tony Lanning, Casey Blair, and Ben Turnbough.
Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Kenneth M. Moreland are suggested by his family to the James Community Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home or in care of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 250, Vienna, Missouri 65582.
