Larry Carl "Chum" Goeller, of Dixon, formerly of Granite City, Illinois, was born on February 13, 1940, at Granite City, a son of Clarence Andrew and Helen Barbara (Sudheimer) Goeller, and departed this life at 6:05 p.m., on Friday, November 18, 2016, at his residence. He had been in failing health for the past six weeks after being diagnosed as having cancer. Larry had attained the age of 76 years, 9 months, and 5 days.
Larry was united in marriage on November 12, 1960, at Granite City, Illinois, to the former Miss Janet Ann Gieszelmann, and to this union, three daughters were born.
Chum was a member of the Visitation Catholic Church, Vienna, and the American Legion, Liesmann-Roberts Post 298, Dixon. He served in the United States Army from October of 1959 until he was honorably discharged on September 30, 1965, at Fort Meade, Maryland. During his working life, he had been employed as a Crane Operator for Granite City Steel, Granite City, Illinois, for thirty-three years, retiring in 1997. Chum and Janet moved to their Dixon home in 1997 for their retirement, where he especially enjoyed going fishing, hunting, woodworking, and being with his family.
Those left to mourn the passing of Larry include: His devoted wife, Janet, of fifty-six years; three daughters, Helen Thomas and husband, Eddie, of Granite City, Illinois, Cindy Loftus and husband, Tim, of Fulton, Missouri, and Beth Gerber and husband, Kurt, of St. Paul, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Linda, Nicole, Thomas, Timothy, Lawrence, Shelby, and Stephanie; three great-grandchildren, Keegan, Lilian, and Rebekah; two brothers, Clarence "Butch" Stephens and wife, Jeanne, of Granite City, Illinois, and Ben Stephens and wife, Nell, of Myrtle Beach, North Carolina; four sisters, Lois Etchison and husband, Bob, Joyce Stephens, and Rita Hull and husband, Sam, all of Greenville, Illinois, and Norma McKay and husband, Tim, of Granite City, Illinois; nephews; nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by one grandson, Raymond Andrew Loftus, on January 6, 2001; his father, Clarence, on November 17, 1984; his mother, Helen, on February 18, 1969; two brothers, Olan Goeller on September 28, 1992, and Ernie Goeller on February 20, 1998; and one sister, Mary Singleton, on September 4. 2010.
