Laveda Mae Singleton of Vienna, MO went to be with her Savior on December 21, 2024, at the Capital Region Hospital in Jefferson City, MO surrounded by her family at the age of 99 ½.
Laveda was born May 13, 1925, in Qulin, MO to parents Louis Vance Cunningham and Dora Cunningham.
Laveda was married to Bozie (BJ) Singleton for 59 years on March 26, 1942. They had 5 children added to their family.
At the age of 17, She moved from the Boot Hill of Missouri to Gary, Indiana. That was when she discovered that 'BJ' stood for Bozie Jefferson. Not to soon after arriving there, she gave her heart to the Lord. Through the years she was a member and Sunday school teacher at the Pentecostal Tabernacle in Gary, In; the Evangelistic Temple in Hessville, Mo, First Pentecostal Church of Vichy, Mo and Glad Tidings United Pentecostal Church of Vienna. Laveda was one of the founding members of the Glad Tidings United Pentecostal Church of Vienna, Mo. In 1969 she moved back to Missouri.
As a child Laveda worked in the cotton fields in the Qulin, Mo area. For most of Laveda's life she was a housewife. After moving to Indiana, Laveda worked a few years as a crossing guard at the Henry S Evans Elementary School which was right across the street from where we lived. After moving back to Missouri, she worked at the Langenberg Hat Factory in Vienna and for the Maries R1 School district.
Beside her parents and husband, Laveda was preceded in death by her brother: Kenneth Cunningham, her son: Isaac Singleton, daughter-in-law: Alice Singleton; son-in-Law: Richard Ovitt; grandson: Eric Bellows and granddaughters: Nicole Singleton and Lynda Kathleen Singleton.
Those left to morn her death are her sister: Connie Peppers of Richland Mo. Sons: Walter (Mary) Singleton of Vienna Mo, Kenneth (Barbara) Singleton of Vienna Mo. Daughters: Bernis (Bill) Hutcheson of Eagle Point Or, Dora Joanne Ovitt of Vichy Mo. Grandsons: Ben David (Maridel) Singleton of Southfield Michigan, Wayne Anthony Singleton of Orlando Fl, James (Tammy)Tucker of Crown Point In, Michael (Heidi) Tucker of Grants Pass Or, Aaron Singleton of Jefferson City Mo, and Ray (Melissa) Singleton of Holts Summit Mo. Granddaughters: Ruth (Phil) Wilcox of Valparaiso In, Brenda (John) Eickhorst of Vienna Mo. Plus several great, great grandchildren and great, great, great grandchildren and a host of special friends and other family members.
Visitation for Laveda will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 3, 2025, and from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 4, 2025, in the Vienna Assembly of God, 1111 Highway 63 N, Vienna, with her funeral service following at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Kenneth Singleton and Rev. Michael Tucker officiating.
Interment for Laveda will be in the Radar Methodist Cemetery, Vienna, under the direction of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home. Pallbearers for Laveda will be James Tucker, Aaron Singleton, Ray Singleton, Cody Singleton, Zak Singleton, and Jordan Eickhorst. Honorary pallbearers will be Curtis Jefferson, (CJ) Eickhorst, Alex Tucker, Dylan Tucker, John Eickhorst and Karl Lewis.
Immediately following the graveside service all in attendance all invited to join the Singleton family for a meal at the Vienna Assembly of God.
Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Laveda Singleton are suggested per the wishes of the family, with envelopes available at the church the day of her service or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 250, Vienna, Missouri 65582.
