Lawrence Herman Falter, of Koeltztown, was born on August 31, 1925, at Freeburg, a son of Joseph Fred and Anna Josephine (Bax) Falter, and departed this life at 9:25 a.m., on Thursday, October 8, 2020, in StoneBridge Westphalia. He had attained the age of 95 years, 1 month, and 8 days.
On February 21, 1945, at St. Louis, Mr. Falter entered into active federal service in the Navy of the United States and served until July 24, 1946, when he was honorably discharged at the U.S. Naval Personnel Separation Center, St. Louis, at the rank of Shipfitter Third Class. During his naval career, Mr. Falter received training and schooling in St. Louis, Missouri, the state of Virginia, and Shoemaker, California, and served on board the USS OTUS, the USS EGERIA, and the USS MAUI. He was awarded and entitled to wear the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the United States Victory Medal. A man of excellent character, Mr. Falter's "Honorable Discharge" is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to his country during World War II.
Lawrence was united in marriage on May 7, 1949, at Koeltztown, to the former Miss Lillian Marie Borgmeyer, and to this union, eight children were born.
He was a faithful and devoted member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Koeltztown, where he was baptized and received his education. He was also a longtime member of the Argyle Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States of America Post 8045, Argyle. During his working life, Mr. Falter was a lifelong farmer in Osage County, prior to his retirement.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Falter include: His devoted wife of over seventy-one years, Lillian Falter, of the home in Koeltztown; seven children, Daniel J. Falter and wife, Linda, of Freeburg, Allen F. Falter and wife, Connie, of Argyle, Carolyn Forck and husband, Dennis, of Taos, Richard L. Falter and wife, Laure, of Koeltztown, Joan E. Stratman and husband, Victor, of Vienna, Leroy F. Falter and wife, Leigh Ann, of Koeltztown, and Paul H. Falter and wife, Sandy, of Koeltztown; 20 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leander Falter and wife, Teresa, and Norbert Falter and wife, Anne, all of Westphalia; one sister-in-law, Darlene Falter, of Freeburg; nephews, nieces, with greats and great-greats as well; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by one son, James John Falter, on June 5, 1964; one grandson, John Daniel Falter, on June 17, 2013; his father, Joseph, on April 23, 1989; his mother, Anna, on June 1, 1990; three brothers, Emil Frank Falter on May 30, 1932, at the age of four years, Henry Joseph Falter on May 25, 1999, and Jerome Frank Falter on December 27, 2019; two sisters, Teresa Frances Kloeppel on December 21, 2013, and Martha M. Hobbs on January 18, 2007; and two brothers-in-law, Andrew Jacob Kloeppel on March 18, 1976, and Vloice Hobbs.
Visitation for Mr. Lawrence Herman Falter will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, with the Argyle Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8045 Memorial Ceremony at 10:30 a.m., in the St. Boniface Catholic Church, 3982 Highway T, Koeltztown, Missouri 65048, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in the church with the Rev. James Finder as the celebrant.
Interment, with full military honors by American Legion Post 317, Freeburg, will be in the St. Boniface Cemetery, Koeltztown, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home in Vienna. Pallbearers for Mr. Falter will be grandsons, Justin Falter, Brian Forck, Nathan Falter, Matt Stratman, Eric Falter, Adam Falter, and Corey Falter, and posthumous honorary pallbearers are his son, James John Falter, and grandson, John Daniel Falter.
Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Lawrence Herman Falter are suggested by his family to the "Honor Flight" program for veterans, Masses, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital with envelopes available at the church or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 250, Vienna, Missouri 65582.
The Falter family invites all attending to share a meal with them in the Argyle VFW Hall, 36776 Highway T, Argyle, Missouri 65001, following the cemetery service.
