Leila Ruth (Burd) Bassett was born on May 8th, 1935 in Maries County, near Meta, Missouri. The third born of Loren Burd and Viola (Atkins) Burd. Leila went home to be with her Lord Jesus on Friday, June 24 th , 2022, at the age of 87, surrounded by her loving family.
Leila was united in marriage on August 29, 1953, at Ricker Church near Meta, to Willis Dean Bassett, and together they raised six children, living in Missouri, Iowa, Virginia, and Colorado.
Leila loved to be outdoors and was happiest when she was fishing, She was known for her peach cobbler, beautiful flower gardens and lively personality. In addition to being a wife and homemaker, Leila also owned and operated a successful fabric store and sewing business when the family lived in Hugo, Colorado. While living in Eagle, Colorado, Leila worked alongside Willis at Bassett Enterprises for over 10 years. She was also an active member of both the Baptist and Nazarene Churches in Glenwood Springs for several years.
In her golden years, Leila loved doing puzzles, playing games with the grandkids and spending time with her family. Leila was fun-loving and social and everyone in her online social group was treated daily to one of her color-by-number pictures.
Those celebrating the life of Leila Bassett include three sons: James Bassett and wife Linda of Dixon; Tom Bassett and wife Karen of Ham Lake, Minnesota; Daniel Bassett and wife Deydra of Fruita, Colorado; three daughters: Anita Denboske and husband Tom of Gypsum, Colorado; Diane Mathis and husband Scott of Davey, Nebraska; Rebecca Scarpati of California; three sisters: Lois Rowden of Meta; Janice Martin of Iberia; Linda Spillars and husband Elmer of Dixon; one brother: Don Burd and wife Joyce of Dixon; brother and sisters-in-law: Kenneth and Susan Bassett of St. Robert; Marilyn and Marty Davis of Rolla; Marilyn Bassett of Vienna; Donna Bassett of Dixon; and Patricia Bassett of Columbia; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and many more relatives and friends.
Leila was preceded in death by her husband Willis Dean Bassett, her father Loren Burd, her mother Viola Burd, her sister Wanda D'Angelo and her brothers-in-law, Bob Bassett, Arnold Bassett, Roy Bassett, Gene Martin and Harold Rowden.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 1, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Birmingham Martin Funeral Home in Vienna and Saturday, July 2, 2022, from 10:00-11:00 am at Kenner Church of God near Dixon.
Her Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, July 2, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Kenner Church with the burial following. Pallbearers are James Bassett, Tom Bassett, Daniel Bassett, Tom Denboske, Shane Mathis, Josh Denboske, Jared Lee, and Zachary Bassett.
Memorial contributions in memory of Leila Ruth Bassett are suggested to the Kenner Cemetery Perpetual Fund with envelopes available at the Kenner Church the day of service or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, PO Box EE, Dixon, Missouri, 65459.
