Lena Mae Moon, of Vienna, formerly of Russellville, was born on April 3, 1924, in Summit, Arkansas, a daughter of Alexander and Pearl Amanda (Hampton) Reed, and departed this life at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, July 13, 2013, in the Maries Manor and Rehabilitation Center, Vienna. Mrs. Moon had attained the age of 89 years, 3 months, and 10 days.
Mrs. Moon was united in marriage on March 29, 1940, at Freeburg, to Wright Francis (DD) Moon and to this union, eleven children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband on January 7, 1982; one son, Steve Wayne Moon in 1974; one daughter, Betty Besche in 1996; her parents; two brothers, John Reed and Norman Moon; four grandchildren, Peggy Moses, David Green, Randy Juergens and Bryce Besche; and two great-grandchildren, Christina Moses and Jennifer Counts.
Mrs. Moon was a loving and devoted housewife and homemaker, always diligent in providing for the needs of her family. She enjoyed reading, gardening, puzzles and crafts.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Moon include: three sons and one daughter-in-law, John and Tina Moon, New Bloomfield; William Moon, Rolla and Timothy Moon, Russellville; six daughters and three sons-in-law, Bonnie and Andrew Green, Perry; Sharon Carr, Vienna; Carol and Larry Bollinger, St. Charles; Anna and Bill Sloan, Vienna; Patricia Kile, Marietta, Georgia; and Jeanne Smith, Russellville; eighteen grandchildren; fifty great-grandchildren; twenty-seven great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Moon at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2013, in the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes, with the Rev. Glen Golden, High Point Baptist Church, officiating. "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", "In The Garden", and "How Great Thou Art" were played for the service.
Interment was in the Rader Cemetery near Vienna, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Pallbearers for Mrs. Moon were Matthew Brown, Jason Besche, Nicholas Juergens, Ronald Green, Andrew Green, Jr., Casey Smith and Scott Cunningham. Honorary pallbearers were Greg Humphrey, Bill Sloan, Andrew Green, Sr., Dustin Juergens, Larry Bollinger and Michael Juergens.
