Leona Rose Mensing, of Liberty, formerly of Dixon, was born on December 25, 1926, at Kansas City, Missouri, a daughter of John Andrew and Leona Mae (Atchinson) Williams, and departed this life at 10:59 a.m., Sunday, January 5, 2020, at her residence in Liberty. Mrs. Mensing had attained the age of 93 years and 10 days.
Mrs. Mensing was united in marriage on September 14, 1947, at Kansas City, Missouri, to Roy Mensing, and to this union, five children were born.
Mrs. Mensing was baptized early in life and had been a member of the Pisgah Baptist Church, Dixon, for over forty years, where she served in numerous positions, including writing and mailing the church newsletter for over twenty years, and being a member of the WMU. She was employed with Civil Service, Fort Leonard Wood, as the Directorate of Military Personnel Trainee/Student Processing Division for nineteen years and had served as clerk to the Board of Directors for the Pulaski Water and Supply District #2 for twenty years. She was a member of the Happy Homemakers Club for fifty plus years and a 4-H Leader for twenty years. Mrs. Mensing enjoyed crocheting, reading, traveling and camping with family members and loved being surrounded by her family and friends.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Mensing include: Her children: Joseph (Lavonda) Mensing, Overland Park, Kansas; John (Mary) Mensing, Sunset, South Carolina; Roxanna "Roxie" (Michael) Twaddell, Kansas City; Loretta (Preston) O'Neal, Dixon, and Daniel Mensing, Peculiar; one sister, Maxine (Elmer) Friederichs, Kansas City; one sister-in-law, Carolyn Williams, Independence, Kansas; thirteen grandchildren, Lysa (Ray) Draper, Jason (Amanda) Mensing, Bridget (Larry) Briley, Kandy Carver, Chris (Amanda) Mensing, Casandra (Brian) Mensing, Scott (Holly) Twaddell, Elizabeth Seelig, Ben (Jamie) Twaddell, Laura Fay (Stephen) Dorinski, Petey (Michelle) O'Neal, Jennifer (Joe) Nestor, and Mark (Cassie) O'Neal; twenty-eight great-grandchildren, RJ, Lillie, Leo, Alex, Abbey, Amelia, Haley, Annabella, Madison, Conor, Tyler, Autumn, Delia, Xander, Isaiah, Madeline, Trenton, Owen, Anna, Joshua, Genevieve, Preston, Joseph, Kaylee, Mary Jane, Andrew, Reuben and Alyssa; and many other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Mensing was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, on October 18, 2002; one granddaughter, Leanne Michelle Mensing, on April 8, 1989; her father, John, on June 15, 1969; her mother, Leona, on August 21, 1997; two brothers, John Andrew Williams, Jr. on July 29, 2008; John's wife, Betty, on August 11, 2013; and Rolla Dale Williams on December 8, 2019.
Visitation for Mrs. Leona RoseMensing will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, January 11, 2020, in the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, 105 East Third Street, Dixon, Missouri 65459, with her funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel, with the Rev. Arthur Gormley, Jr., pastor of New Salem Baptist Church, near Dixon, officiating.
Interment will be in the Pisgah Cemetery, near Dixon, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home in Dixon.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pisgah Baptist Church, Dixon in care of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box EE, Dixon, Missouri 65459.
