Loretta Gayle "Lucy" McKinnon, of Dixon, was born on August 24, 1950, at Salt Lake City, Utah, a daughter of James Harlan and Ruby Lucille (Jett) Acord, and departed this life at 6:07 p.m., Thursday, February 27, 2020, in the SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital, Jefferson City. She had attained the age of 69 years, 6 months, and 3 days.
Loretta was united in marriage on July 30, 1983, at Dixon, to Charlie Dean McKinnon.
She had accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and had followed Him in baptism while attending the New Salem Baptist Church in rural Dixon. Loretta was baptized by her pastor at that time, Rev. Ray McClary, in the Little Maries River near the old Cleveland School. She began her education at the Wheeler School, near the family home, in rural Maries County, and was later a student of the Dixon R-1 Schools.
During her working life, Loretta had been employed by Walmart, St. Robert, for seventeen years, as the Health and Beauty Aids Department Manager, and in the same position for Country Mart, Dixon, for twenty years, prior to her retirement in July of 2019. Activities she thoroughly enjoyed were fishing, yard sales, doing yard work, tending her flowers, taking care of her home, and especially decorating for Christmas.
Those left to mourn the passing of Loretta include: Her husband, Charlie McKinnon, of the home, near Dixon; her children, Jamie Acord, of Dixon; and Glen Dale "Petie" Acord and friend, Dee Davis, of St. Robert; her grandchildren, Robert Allen Lowe and wife, Emily, of Dixon; Jessica Herman, and husband, Matt, of the state of Florida; her great-granddaughters, Kenley Herman and Elania Lowe; her brothers and sisters, Dennis Acord and wife, Judy, of Jefferson City; Leona Rivera and husband, Robert, of Dixon; Rebecca "Becky" Bowser and husband, Brian, of Dixon; Robert Acord and wife, Suzanne, of Hartman, Arkansas; and Carol Blackard, of Clarksville, Arkansas; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jim, on December 11, 1988; her mother, Ruby, on July 24, 2017; one brother, Kenneth Virgil "Kenny" Acord on July 31, 2004; one sister-in-law (Kenny's wife), Wanda Catheryn "Cathy" (Thompson) Acord, on December 12, 2016; and two nephews (sons of her brother, Dennis), Brian Acord and Jason Acord.
Visitation for Mrs. Loretta Gayle "Lucy" McKinnon will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Monday, March 2, 2020, and from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, 105 East Third Street, Dixon, Missouri 65459.
Funeral services will be conducted for Mrs. Loretta Gayle "Lucy" McKinnon at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in the Chapel of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, 105 East Third Street, Dixon, Missouri 65459, with the Rev. Louis Dunlap, pastor of the Pisgah Baptist Church, near Dixon, officiating.
Interment will be close to her parents and family in the Wheeler Cemetery, near Dixon, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home in Dixon. Pallbearers for Loretta will be Timmy McKinnon, J.T. McKinnon, Billy Sinden III, Logan Sinden, Dillon McKinnon, and Robert Lowe, and her honorary pallbearers will be Thomas McKinnon, Travis McKinnon, Ruhl Roberts, and Dennis Acord.
All those attending the services for Loretta are cordially invited to a meal in the Wheeler Church Hall located on the lower level of the church building across from the cemetery following the graveside committal service.
Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Loretta Gayle "Lucy" McKinnon are suggested by her family to the Wheeler Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box EE, Dixon, Missouri 65459.
