Lorna Mae Crawford, of Lamesa, Texas, formerly of Iberia, was born on March 3, 1939, at Hancock, Wisconsin, a daughter of Sherley Edward and Nellie Mae (Smith) Gibbs, and departed this life on Saturday, September 29, 2018, in Covenant Health, Lubbock, Texas. She had attained the age of 79 years, 6 months, and 26 days.
Mrs. Crawford was united in marriage on January 11, 1958, at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, to Robert Rex Crawford, and to this union, seven children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband on October 8, 2014; her father; and her mother.
On May 9, 1957, at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Mrs. Crawford entered into active federal service in the United States Marine Corps and served until March 24, 1958, when she was honorably discharged at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, at the rank of Private First Class. Mrs. Crawford was trained in administrative work and was assigned to the Women Marine Company, Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, for all of her military service. Her "Honorable Discharge" is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to her country as a cold war veteran.
Mrs. Crawford was a member of the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, at St. Anthony, MO; and a life member the Auxiliary of the American Legion in Sunrise Beach, the 8 and 40 for Cystic Fibrosis, the Department Chapeau, and President of District 8; and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Crocker, served as President of the post; the Disabled American Veterans Association; and the Marine Corps League. She was also very proud of the fact that five of her seven children served in the military.
In addition to being a devoted housewife, homemaker, and civic minded person, Mrs. Crawford had been employed during her working life as an Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic for twenty years prior to her retirement in 1992.
Those left to remember her love and devotion are her children: Bobby Crawford of Jacksonville, Illinois, Paul and Joyce Crawford of Moberly, MO, Tom and Dorrie Crawford of Clark, MO, Joe Crawford of Lamesa, Texas, John and Shawna Crawford of Holts Summit, MO, Clairesa and Doug Morris of Lamesa, Texas, and Carrie Crawford and Greg Marshall of Holts Summit, MO; her grandchildren; her great-grandchildren; her siblings, Harold and Jan Gibbs of Charlevoix, Michigan, Gladys Ann Myers of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and Linda Lou and Allen Schultz of Princeton, Wisconsin; and other relatives and friends.
Visitation for Mrs. Lorna Mae Crawford will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with the Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, October 5, 2018, all in the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, St. Anthony, Missouri, with the Rev. Joby Thomas as the Celebrant.
Interment will be next to her beloved husband in the Iberia Cemetery under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home in Vienna.
