Obituary

Marcella M. Gradel, of Freeburg, was born on May 29, 1934, at Freeburg, a daughter of George Frank, Jr. and Mary Magdalene (Haller) Gradel, and departed this life at 1:43 a.m., on Thursday, August 13, 2020, in StoneBridge Westphalia. She had attained the age of 86 years, 2 months, and 14 days.

Marcella was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, and during her working life, she had been employed as the secretary and bookkeeper for Beck Motors, Freeburg, for 58 years prior to her retirement. One of her favorite activities during her life was being on a bowling team and thoroughly enjoying the sport of bowling.

Those left to mourn the passing of Marcella include: Four nephews and nieces, Allen Gradel (Denise), and Brenda Becker, all of Freeburg; Curtis Stegeman (Beth), and Sue Porting (Carl), all of Jefferson City; six great-nephews and nieces, Sean Stegeman, Scott Stegeman, Andrew Porting, Zach Porting, Paige Lafferty, and Chelsea Becker; nine great-great-nephews and nieces; and other relative and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, George, on March 20, 1969; her mother, Mary, on December 23, 1999; two brothers, Eugene John "Pistol" Gradel, on August 28, 2012; and Alfred Andrew "Buddy" Gradel, on February 13, 2014; one sister, Irene Stegeman, on April 23, 2013; one brother-in-law, James Stegeman, on April 5, 2005; one sister-in-law, Leona Gradel, on January 15, 2019; and nephew-in-law, Richard Becker, on June 11, 2019.

Visitation for Marcella M. Gradel will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., on Monday, August 17, 2020, in the Holy Family Catholic Church, 104 Oliver Street, Freeburg, Missouri 65035, with her Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00 a.m. in the Church with the Rev. Willian D. Debo as the celebrant.

Interment will be in the Holy Family Cemetery, Freeburg, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home in Vienna. Pallbearers for Marcella will be Darryl Haller, Glen Haller, Carl Porting, Fred Wieberg, Scott Stegeman, and Nick Lafferty. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Gradel, Chelsea Becker, and Danny Hertzing.

Memorials in memory of Marcella M. Gradel are suggested by her family to the Holy Family School with envelopes available at the Church or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 250, Vienna, Missouri 65582.
