Obituary

Mary Josephine Bure, of Argyle, was born on October 4, 1936, at Westphalia, a daughter of Charles Fritz and Mary Elizabeth (Meyerpeter) Falter, and departed this life at 3:02 p.m., on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at the residence of her daughter near Westphalia. She had attained the age of 82 years, 11 months, and 7 days.

Mary was united in marriage on May 19, 1973, at Westphalia, to Frederick Bernard Bure, and to this union, three children were born.

She was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Argyle. During her working life, Mary had been employed by Linn Manufacturing; Tweedie Shoe in Jefferson City; and Meta Uniform Company, all prior to her marriage and becoming a stay at home mom. After her children grew older, she worked at Quaker Window in Freeburg, until retiring in 1995. Mary enjoyed embroidery work, making many quilts and other items for her family to treasure. She also loved to cook and bake for her family, and wrote family recipe books by hand for each of her children, which included pictures of her own culinary creations. She especially took pride in making homemade bread from scratch (without a recipe). She loved to tell the story of how one day, at the age of 13, she took it upon herself to make the bread by herself when her parents were away longer than they had anticipated. The bread turned out so well, and everyone said it was the best they had ever had, so the bread-making became her job from then on. Mary also loved and was strong in her faith. A life-long Catholic, she started each day by offering all of her works, joys, and sufferings of the day to the Lord in prayer, and had a novena for nearly any occasion. It was important to her to pass that faith on to her children; which she and Fred humbly did.

Those left to mourn her passing include: Her children, Mark Bure of Argyle, Brenda M. Rehagen and husband, Travis, of Westphalia, and Jennifer Wood and husband, Michael, of Holts Summit; her six grandchildren, Destiny Schulte and husband, Marine Sergeant Clinten Schulte, of Oceanside, Calilfornia, Navy Petty Officer (E-6) Dillon Rehagen and wife, Kana, of Slidell, Louisiana, Marine Corporal (E-4) Jacob Rehagen and wife, Makayla, of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Joshua Rehagen of Westphalia, Elaina Wood and Kaleb Wood, both of Holts Summit, and Mary's first great-grandchild anticipated on March 27, 2020; nephews; nieces; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, on March 29, 2013; her father, Charles F., on July 19, 1964; her mother, Mary, on December 27, 1972; and her siblings, Bernard Falter on July 6, 1997, Gertrude (Joe) Boeckmann on July 18, 1974, Catherine (Al) Brandt on April 20, 2015, and Charles Falter on January 9, 2005.
