Obituary

Mary Thelma Schwegler, of St. Charles, formerly of Vienna, was born on May 30, 1918, a daughter of Andrew and Emma Maude (Langford) Shanks, and departed this life on Friday morning, October 4, 2013, in the Missouri Baptist Hospital, St. Louis. She had attained the age of 95 years, 4 months, and 5 days.

Mrs. Schwegler was united in marriage on February 14, 1953, at St. Louis, to August L. Schwegler, Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband on December 11, 2001; one son, William McCormick on June 26, 2012; her father in 1963; her mother in 1961; five brothers, Irvin Graham, James Graham, Charles Shanks, Homer Shanks, and Edgar Shanks; and one sister, Minerva Comegys.

Mrs. Schwegler accepted Jesus Christ as her Personal Saviour and followed her Lord in Baptism early in life and was a member of the Church of Christ (Temple Lot), Houston. She had worked for World Color Press and later was a school crossing guard. Mrs. Schwegler was a devoted housewife and homemaker and was always diligent in providing for the needs of her family. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and was an avid reader.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Schwegler include: One son, August Leonard Schwegler, Jr., Winterville, Georgia; two daughters, Nancy Peyerl and husband, Rudy, O'Fallon; Karen Renaud and husband, Charlie, Vienna; one step-daughter, Dorothy Verbeck and husband, Robert, Collinsville, Illinois; twelve grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation for Mrs. Schwegler was from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with funeral services following, on Monday, October 7, 2013, in the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes, with Elder Marvin Case and Elder Leslie Case, Church of Christ (Temple Lot), Independence, officiating.

Interment was in the Bethel Cemetery near Vienna, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Pallbearers for Mrs. Schwegler were Leonard Schwegler, Jr., Charlie Renaud, Jim Shanks, Sr., Jim Shanks, Jr., Chuck Renaud, and Bob Verbeck.
