Mathilda M. "Tillie" Leuthen, of Argyle, was born on August 27, 1909, at Argyle, a daughter of Anton and Catherine (Wansing) Schulte, and departed this life at 12:38 a.m., Sunday, February 9, 2014, in the Maries Manor and Rehabilitation Center, Vienna. Mrs. Leuthen had attained the age of 104 years, 5 months, and 12 days.
Mrs. Leuthen was united in marriage on June 2, 1936, at Argyle to Henry G. Leuthen and to this union, two children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband on April 4, 1996; two sons, David Leuthen and Charles Leuthen; her parents; two brothers, John Schulte and infant Henry Schulte; and five sisters, infant Maggie Schulte, Cunigunda Schulte at age ten years, Christine Bax, Margaret Kinworthy and Pauline Schmitz.
Mrs. Leuthen was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle, the St Ann Ladies Sodality and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, Argyle. She babysat while living in St. Louis and was a housewife and homemaker for all her working life, always diligent in providing for the needs of her family.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Leuthen include: her daughter-in-law, Eileen Leuthen, Argyle; a nephew whom they raised from the age of three years, Ray Schwartze and his wife, June, Argyle; two grandchildren, Aaron Leuthen and Angela Neal and husband, Jeff; five great-grandchildren, Tiffany and Kate Leuthen, and Delaney, Ella and Noah Charles Neal; and many other relatives and friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mrs. Leuthen at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 12, 2014, in the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle, with the Rev. Msgr. Marion J. Makarewicz, officiating. Interment will be in the St. Aloysius Cemetery, Argyle, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
Visitation will be from 4 – 7 p.m., Tuesday, February 11, 2014 with a Rosary at 4 p.m., in the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home and from 9 – 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 12, 2014, in the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle.
Masses are preferred by the family with envelopes available at the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes or the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle.
