Obituary

Matilda Marie Wansing, of Vienna, was born on November 8, 1914, at Freeburg, a daughter of Fritz B, Jr. and Elizabeth (Hagenhoff) Falter and departed this life on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, in the Westphalia Hills Center, Westphalia. Tillie had attained the age of 99 years, 9 months, and 5 days.

Tillie was united in marriage on February 15, 1939, at Westphalia, to William A. Wansing, and to this union, eleven children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband on January 13, 1997; one son, Melvin Wansing on December 27, 1997; an infant daughter, Mary Wansing on September 18, 1941; two daughters-in-law, Margaret Wansing on December 16, 2004 and Marcie Wansing-Ready on March 13, 2013; one son-in-law, Robert Bax on June 29, 2003; her father on August 16, 1937; her mother on March 10, 1963; two brothers, John H. Falter on June 11, 1997 and Alphonse "Dick" Falter on October 27, 1994; one half-brother, Charles W. Falter on July 19, 1964; five sisters, Elizabeth Falter on January 22, 1903, Franciska Falter on January 25, 1903; Elizabeth M. Bock on July 16, 1999, Cecilia Schwartze on August 29, 2005, Anna Schwartze on March 22, 2008; and two half-sisters, Gertrude "Sister Josephine" Falter on March 24, 1966 and Josephine Morfield on April 8, 1943.

Mrs. Wansing was a lifelong member of Visitation Catholic Church, Vienna and the Ladies Sodality of the Church. She was a devoted Mother, housewife and homemaker all of her working life. She enjoyed sewing and quilting with the church ladies for many years.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Wansing include: two daughters and one son-in-law, Joyce Wansing, Tucson, Arizona and Judy and Robert Haller, Freeburg; seven sons and four daughters-in-law, Pete Wansing, Springfield; Gene Wansing, Topeka, Kansas; Tom and Alane Wansing, Freeburg; Steve Wansing, Springfield; Mike and Susan Wansing; Dale and Lillian Wansing; and Bill and Alice Wansing, all of Koeltztown; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren, with two more expected by the end of the year; one sister, Lidwinia Colten, Fredericktown; numerous nephews; nieces; and other relatives and friends.

A Prayer Service was held for Tillie at 7:00 p.m., on Friday, August 15, 2014, in the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with Deacon Doug Hemke leading.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mrs. Wansing at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 16, 2014, in the Visitation Catholic Church, Vienna, with the Rev. Msgr. Marion J. Makarewicz, Our Lady of the Lake, Lake Ozark, officiating.

Interment was in the Visitation Catholic Cemetery, Vienna, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Pallbearers for Mrs. Wansing were Randy Wansing, Matt Wansing, Chad Wansing, Mark Wansing, Kevin Bax, and Jason Wansing.

Masses are preferred by the family with envelopes available at the Visitation Catholic Church, Vienna or the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
