Michael Joseph "Mac" McEnnis, Jr., of Vienna, formerly of Eureka, Missouri, and Fort Myers, Florida, was born on May 13, 1921, at St. Louis, the son of Michael Joseph, Sr. and Emma (Schelling) McEnnis, and departed this life at 1:15 a.m., on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, in the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital, Columbia. He had attained the age of 97 years, 9 months, and 2 days.
Mac was first united in marriage in 1947, at St. Louis, to the former Jeanette Hartman, and to this union, two children were born. He was later united in marriage in 1970, at Fort Myers, Florida, to Emmalee McEnnis of New York, who preceded her husband in death.
On May 15, 1942, Mac entered into active federal service in the United States Marine Corps and served with the Marines until January 8, 1944. Following his career with the Marine Corps, he served in the Missouri National Guard from January 6, 1948, until April 4, 1949. Mac once again entered into active federal service in the United States Air Force, on May 16, 1949, at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, and served until December 10, 1952, when he was honorably discharged at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, at the rank of Staff Sergeant. A man of excellent character, Mac's "Honorable Discharge" is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to his country during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Mac had attended school in St. Louis, and following his high school graduation, he had studied at the School of Mines and Metallurgy, Rolla. Mac was baptized into the Catholic Church and his family had attended the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eureka, while living there. He had been employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, St. Louis, before moving to Florida.
While living in Fort Myers, Florida, Mac was active in the American Legion and the Elks Lodge where he was elected Exaulted Ruler of the Lodge. He was employed, in Florida, by Fidelity Communications Company and CenturyLink for a total of thirty-five years in phone work prior to his retirement and moving back to St. James, Missouri, in 2007.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Michael J. "Mac" McEnnis, Jr. include: His children, Michael Patrick "Pat" McEnnis and wife, Debbie, of Vichy, and Terry Kevin McEnnis of Pacific; his step-daughters, Sandra Jean Wojtkunski and husband, William, of Warrenton, and Leslee Mitchell of Peachtree City, Georgia; five grandchildren-Kelly, Bobbie, Pam, Laurie, and Sharon; eleven great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Mac was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanette; his second wife, Emmalee; his father, Michael, Sr.; his mother, Emma; his sister, Emma Marie Karcher; a daughter-in-law, Sandy; and a grandson, Greg.
A memorial visitation and funeral service for Mr. Michael J. "Mac" McEnnis, Jr. will be held at a time and date to be announced in the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, 406 South Main Street, Vienna, Missouri 65582, with Mr. Orlando Gaut of Wildwood, Missouri, as the speaker.
The Patriot Guard Riders, of South Central Missouri, will lead a memorial tribute procession for Mr. Michael J. "Mac" McEnnis, Jr. from the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, 406 South Main Street, Vienna, Missouri 65582, to the Missouri Veterans Cemetery-Fort Leonard Wood, 25350 Highway H, Waynesville, Missouri 65583, where full military honors will be rendered to this United States Patriot followed by his inurnment. Honorary pallbearers Mr. McEnnis will be Pat McEnnis, Terry McEnnis, Orlando Gaut, Frank Gaut, Mark Honse, and Luke McEnnis.
