John Patrick "Pat" Dawson, age 74, of Vienna, was born April 16, 1948, at Centerville, Iowa, a son of Robert Crane and Bonnie Lou (Oldham) Dawson, and passed from this life Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Kansas City Hospice, Kansas City.
On April 20, 1967, at St. Louis, Pat entered active federal service in the United States Air Force and served until January 29, 1971, when he was honorably discharged at Keesler Airforce Base, Mississippi, at the rank of Senior Airman Class E-4. A man of excellent character, Pat's "Honorable Discharge" is a testimony of selfless and faithful service to his country.
He was united in marriage August 5, 1972, at Vienna, to Marilyn Kathleen Wyss, and to this union three children were born.
Pat had been a member of several organizations through the years including: The Vienna Lions Club, Vienna-Bassett Eagles Club, American Legion Post #12, Vienna. He had a lifelong passion for hunting and fishing. Pat enjoyed playing cards, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
During his working life, Pat was a construction superintendent for Vaughn Pools and Wavco Construction, the owner and operator of Dawson Construction and Pools, and was employed with Curtiss-Manes-Schulte Construction Company, Eldon, until his health no longer permitted him to work.
Those left to mourn the passing of Pat include: His wife, Marilyn, of the home near Vienna; two sons, Rick Dawson and wife, Stacia, of Argyle, and Joshua Dawson and Jacqueline Helms, of Kansas City; one daughter, Nikki Hughes and husband, Jason, of Kansas City; four grandchildren, Reese Mae Dawson, Spencer Caleb Hughes, Phoebe Jean Dawson, Evie Kathleen Dawson, and another granddaughter expected in June 2023; step-father, Clifford Wagner, Sr., of Vienna; half-brother, Clifford Wagner Jr. and wife, Mary, of Vienna; half-sister, Denise Branch, of Vienna; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert, on February 16, 1989; his mother, Bonnie, on June 6, 1998; his stepmother, Shirley Wagner, on June 15, 2021; three brothers, Mike Dawson, on October 5, 2006, Bobby Dawson, on July 27, 2022, and Danny Dawson, on July 26, 2018; his father-in-law, Clifford Wyss, on December 14, 2020; and his mother-in-law, Mae Wyss, on January 23, 2018.
Visitation for Mr. John Pat Dawson will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 29, 2023, in the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home Chapel, 406 S. Main Street, Vienna, Mo 65582, and Monday, January 30, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., in the Vienna Christian Life Assembly, 1111 Highway 63 North, Vienna, Mo 65582, with his funeral service following at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Clifford Wagner, Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in Kenner Cemetery, near Dixon, under the direction of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Dixon. Pallbearers for Pat will be Lonny Cotton, John Backues, Bob Renkemeyer, Hunter Wyss, Larry Hollis, Shawn Wagner, Bryan Wyss, and Drake Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be David Swarthout, Dean Ready, Norbert Schwartze, Bob Malone, Donnie Terry, Mitchell Terry, and Leslie Tackett.
Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. John Pat Dawson are suggested per the wishes of the family with envelopes available at the church on the day of his service or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 250, Vienna, Mo 65582.
