Obituary

Paul was born on April 4, 1927, at Rolla, Missouri to Joseph Edward Beydler and Dorothy Elizabeth (Henkenius) Beydler. He departed this life shortly before 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at home with his family. He had attained the age of 93 years, 1 month, and 16 days.

He was united in marriage on December 19, 1964, to the former Helen Schmatz at Jennings, Missouri, who survives of the home.

Before Paul could graduate from Dixon High School in 1945, he was drafted into the Army and was eventually assigned to the U.S. Army Signal Corps. During World War II and after, he served in France and Germany. In 1948, while in Heidelberg, Germany, he acquired is General Equivalency Diploma which allowed him to graduate with the Dixon High School class of 1948. He was honorably discharged from the Army later that year and returned to civilian life under the employment of his father. Soon he re-enlisted in the Army as a Reservist and was called back to active duty serving in Japan during the Korean conflict.

Paul left his military service as a Staff Sergeant and began civil service in the Department of the Army at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri as a troop supply officer and management analyst for the Post Supply Office. In 1961, he began serving with the General Services Administration, Personal Property Division with an office at Fort Wood and in Kansas City, Missouri. He was charged with disposing excess federal property in Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, and North Dakota. During his 35 years in this position, he transferred various government property from typewriters to missile sites.

Paul retired from civil service in 1982 and opened a shoe repair, leather-crafting, and saddle manufacturing business in Dixon. In his retirement, Paul served three years on the Pulaski County Coalition on Aging as secretary; nine years on the Pulaski County Senior Citizens Tax Fund Board, eight as chairman; 25 years as the Pulaski County representative to the Central Missouri Area Agency on Aging; and was appointed by the Governor of Missouri as an alternate delegate to the President's Commission on Aging in 1996. He served several years as a member the Missouri Alliance of Area Agencies on Aging, 11 years on the Pulaski County Public Health Board and the Lake Ozark Area Home Health and Hospice Agency Board of Trustees chairing the Home Health and Hospice Ethics Committee. He was a member of the Small Business Loan Committee and on the general board of the Meramec Regional Planning Commission. He was a longtime member of Arlington Masonic Lodge No. 346 of Dixon serving one year as Worshipful Master and 19 years as an officer including secretary and treasurer. He was a member of the Dixon High Twelve Association. Paul was an active member of the American Legion, Lions Club, Optimist Club, and Boy Scouts of America. He was also a member of the Oak Ridge Development Corporation.

Paul was a long-time member of the First Christian Church of Dixon holding a number of leadership positions including elder, trustee, board president, and treasurer. His most recent church home was the Kenner Church of God.

Paul was honored to be a member of the Central Missouri Honor Flight to visit war memorials on the Capitol Mall in Washington, D. C. in 2011.

Paul led by example as his lifetime of service was inherited by his family. Rhama Sue, his daughter works in the health care industry. Sons Joe and Tim are both career educators whose spouses also work in education. His wife was involved serving in school, religious, and civic organizations. His son and granddaughter serve their country in the U. S. Army.

Paul enjoyed his family, reading, leatherwork, woodwork, and carpentry. His handiwork included a home addition, furniture and furnishings, chaps, saddles, vests, and military accoutrements.

Those left to celebrate Paul's life include his wife Helen, of the home; his daughter, Rhama Sue Atwell of Clearwater, Florida; son, Joe and wife Melinda of Warrensburg, Missouri, son, Tim and fiancée, Lynette Bellis of Smithton, Missouri. He was very proud of his grandchildren, Alexandra Beydler of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Austin Beydler of Columbia, Missouri, and Ian Beydler of Smithton, Missouri. Paul is survived by siblings Josephine Roberson of Laramie, Wyoming, Bill Beydler and wife Georgia of Springfield, Missouri, Virginia Myer and husband, Donovan of Greenville, Indiana; sister-in-law Lois Beydler of Santa Clarita, California; and a host of nieces; nephews; grand-nieces; and grand-nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by his father and mother, son, Paul Edward Beydler, Jr.; sister, Lilian Thompson and husband, Warren; brother, T. R. "Bud" Beydler, and brother-in-law, Gene Roberson.

Visitation for Paul will be held from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m., and again from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m., with the funeral service following at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2020, all in the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, 105 East Third Street, Dixon, Missouri 65459. Due to current restrictions full military honors will be given at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery-Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Dixon.

Memorials in memory of Paul are suggested by his family to the Kenner Church of God or the Liesmann-Roberts American Legion Post No. 298 both of Dixon, with envelopes available at the funeral home or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. EE, Dixon, Missouri 65459.
