Obituary

Philip Joseph Dudenhoeffer, of Freeburg, was born March 3, 1928, at Freeburg, in Osage County, a son of Peter and Margaret (Reinkemeyer) Dudenhoeffer, and departed this life at 1:55 a.m., on Saturday, July 11, 2015, in Westphalia Hills. Mr. Dudenhoeffer had attained the age of 87 years, 4 months, and 8 days.

Mr. Dudenhoeffer was united in marriage on October 30, 1954, at Argyle, to Martha Katheryn Brandel, and to this union, two sons were born. He was preceded in death by his father, Peter; his mother, Margaret; one great-grandson, Corbin Wegman; one brother, Hubert Dudenhoeffer; one sister and brother-in-law, Agnes and Norbert Frank; and nephews.

On November 3, 1948, at Jefferson City, Mr. Dudenhoeffer entered into active federal service in the Army of the United States and served until August 2, 1952, when he was honorably discharged at Camp Crowder, at the rank of Sergeant. During his military career, Mr. Dudenhoeffer was awarded and entitled to wear the Army Occupation Medal (Germany) and the Good Conduct Medal. A man of excellent character, Philip's "Honorable Discharge" is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to his country.

He was a lifelong member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Freeburg, and a member of the Paul A. Hasenbeck Memorial American Legion Post No. 317. Mr. Dudenhoeffer graduated from Holy Family High School, Freeburg, and had worked for the State of Missouri, painting bridges for a few years prior to becoming the Plant Superintendent of Quaker Window Products for 44 years retiring in 1999. He had been Mayor of Freeburg, for several years and enjoyed his farm, raising cattle, and fishing. Phil loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Dudenhoeffer include: His wife of 60 years, Martha Dudenhoeffer, of the home in Freeburg; two sons, Dr. Mike (Maggi) Dudenhoeffer, Freeburg; and Jim (Debbie) Dudenhoeffer, Loose Creek; five grandchildren, Kimberly (Dr. Bob) Moeller, Brent (Katrina) Dudenhoeffer, Ryan (Meghan) Dudenhoeffer, Kristen (Justin) Wegman, and Christy (Jason) Roettgen; nine great-grandchildren, Huck, Crosbey, Georgia, Macy, Cloey, Hadley, Grady, Gentry, and Austin; two brothers, Ignatius "Bud" (Jo) Dudenhoeffer, Jefferson City, and Raymond (Viola) Dudenhoeffer, Freeburg; and one sister-in-law, Mildred Dudenhoeffer, Freeburg; nephews; nieces; and other relatives and friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mr. Dudenhoeffer at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, in the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, with the Rev. William Debo celebrating.


Interment with full military honors was in the Holy Family Cemetery, Freeburg, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Serving as pallbearers were Brent Dudenhoeffer, Ryan Dudenhoeffer, Jason Roettgen, Justin Wegman, Dr. Bob Moeller, and Clifford Cornell. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Mike Dudenhoeffer and Jim Dudenhoeffer.

Masses or memorials to the Holy Family Church and School, Freeburg, are preferred by the family with envelopes available at the Holy Family Church or the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
