Obituary

Richard Edward Lewis, age 62, of Dixon, was born March 14, 1963, in Springfield, Illinois, a son of James Edward and Doris (Anders) Lewis, and passed from this life on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

In August of 1980, in St. Louis, Richard entered active federal service in the United States Army and after 14 years of service, Richard retired with an "Honorable Discharge" in 1994, with the rank of Sergeant (E5), at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, as a Light Wheel Vehicle Mechanic and Power Generator Equipment Repairer. While enlisted in the United States Army he received several awards, medals, and ribbons such as: Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Army Lapel Button, Good Conduct Medal (3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), NCO Professional Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3), Expert Badge M-16 Riffle, and the Driver and Mechanic Badge.  A man of excellent character, Richard's "Honorable Discharge" is a testimony of selfless and faithful service to his country.

Richard was married on August 22, 1981, in Waterloo, Illinois, to the former Ms. Rita L. Dains and to this union one son was born.

After his discharge from the United States Army, Richard continued working as a mechanic at Sellers-Sexton Mitsubishi, Rolla. He was an avid outdoorsman and a disabled vet who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and following the KCRITZ band.

Those left to celebrate the life of Richard include: his loving wife of 44 years, Rita of the home in Dixon; his son, Richard Allen Lewis and wife, Lisa of Rolla; two grandchildren, Blake Lewis and Hailey Lewis; two brothers, Robert Lewis and wife Dawn of Springfield, Illinois, and James M. Lewis and wife, Robin of Auburn, Illinois; two sisters, Kathy Richardson and husband, John of Springfield, Illinois, and Kimberly Richardson and husband, Tim of Moweaqua, Illinois;  and many other relatives and friends.

Richard is proceeded in death by his father, James Edward Lewis and his mother, Doris (Anders) Lewis.

Visitation for Mr. Richard Lewis will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 10, 2026, with his funeral mass following at 11:00 a.m., all in the Holy Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Brinktown, Missouri, with Rev. Basil Tigga and Deacon Michael Brooks concelebrating the Mass, with full military honors following.

Memorial contributions in memory of Richard are suggested by his family to the Wounded Warrior Program, with envelopes available at the church the day of his service or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 250, Vienna, Missouri 65582.
