Robert Orin "Bob" Hayes, of Vienna, was born November 4, 1935, in rural Maries County, a son of Charles Leon and Minnie Catherine (Clement) Hayes, and departed this life suddenly from an apparent attack at 12:36 p.m., Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at his residence in Vienna. He had attained the age of 79 years and 7 days.
Bob was united in marriage on July 5, 1958, at Hayden, Missouri, to Carolyn Sue Nelson, and to this union, two daughters were born. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles, on January 4, 1973, and his mother, Catherine, on June 29, 1987.
Bob was a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and attended the St. John's Lutheran Church in Babbtown. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a 1953 graduate of the Rolla School of Mines (now the Missouri University of Science and Technology) in Rolla where he earned his mechanical engineering degree. In his early working career, Bob was employed by NASA and had assisted with the engineering of numerous hydraulic systems for rocket launchers. Later in his career, Bob and his wife owned and operated General Hydraulics in New Jersey and in Alabama prior to their moving back to Vienna. He enjoyed participating and supporting activities which promoted positive growth and quality of life in the community. At the time of his passing, Bob was the Vice-President of the Vienna Senior Citizens Center Board of Directors. Bob was also a graduate of the Vienna High School, an avid reader, and strongly supported education.
Those left to mourn the passing of Bob include: His wife, Carolyn Hayes, of the home in Vienna; two daughters, Cindi Weber and husband, Paul, Columbia; and Sherry Jacks, and husband, David, Independence; two brothers, Russell Hayes and wife, Georgena, Jefferson City; and Daniel Hayes and wife, Jane, Fruitland, Florida; two sisters, Mary Hayes Yates, and husband, Bob, Dallas, Texas; and Patsy Carroll, Lee Summit; five grandchildren, Zachary Weber and wife, Andrea, state of Iowa; Megan Kiefer, Kansas City, Kansas; Alexander Weber, Columbia; Samuel Jacks, Columbia; and Donna Sue Jacks, Kansas City; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m., Thursday, November 13 and 10 - 11a.m., Friday, November 14, 2014, in the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted for Mr. Hayes at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, November 14, 2014, in the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with Pastor Gerald Scheperle officiating.
Interment with full military honors will be in the Kenner Cemetery near Dixon under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Active pallbearers were Zachary Weber, Alexander Weber, Todd Hayes, Michael Carroll, Bill Yates, Greg Hayes, and Samuel Jacks. Honorary pallbearers were Ernie Hollo, Bill Marrow, Greg Duke, and Tom Frankenfield.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. John's Lutheran Church, Babbtown, with enveloped available at the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
