Obituary

Robert Ray West, of St. Louis, formerly of Dixon, was born on November 3, 1927, near Dixon in Maries County, a son of Claude Marion and Elsie (Nelson) West, and departed this life on Thursday, November 21, 2013, at his residence. Mr. West had attained the age of 86 years and 8 days.

Mr. West was united in marriage on September 7, 1952, at Dixon, to the former Miss Delphia Ivoine Allen, and to this union, three children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife on December 18, 2011; his father on February 4, 1989; his mother on May 6, 1994; three brothers-in-law, Johnnie Peacock, Bill Thompson, and Edward Meiser; and one sister-in-law, Rose West.

Mr. West was a United States Army veteran and had been employed as a machinist with Multiple Boring Machine Company, St. Louis, retiring after forty years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, being out-doors, and family activities.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. West include: two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Katie West, Chesterfield; and Paul and Kathleen West, Seattle, Washington; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Daniel Bauwens, St. Louis; four grandchildren, Max, Robert, Brianna, and Jane and her husband, A.J.; one brother, Loss West, St. Charles; three sisters, Elsie Mae Peacock, Phenix City, Alabama; Eunice Thompson, Smith Junction, Alabama; and Fern Meiser, St. Louis; two sisters-in-law, Nellie Irene Loane, St. Louis; and Ethel May Allen, Dixon; and other relatives and friends.

Visitation for Mr. West will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon, on Saturday, November 30, 2013, in the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with a funeral service following at 12 noon.

Interment with full military honors will be in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Pallbearers for Mr. West will be David West, Paul West, Dan Bauwens, Max West, Robert Bauwens, and A. J. Hayworth. Honorary pallbearers are Brianna Bauwens and Jane West.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society with envelopes available at the Dixon Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
