Ronald Gene Liesman, of Rolla, formerly of Vienna, was born on August 26, 1934, at Vienna, Maries County, Missouri, a son of Frank and Minnie Mabel (Kehr) Liesman, and departed this life on Sunday, June 22, 2014, at the Rolla Health and Rehabilitation Suites, Rolla, Phelps County, Missouri. Ronnie had been in failing health for some time and had attained the age of 79 years, 9 months, and 26 days.
Ronnie had accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and he had followed his Lord in baptism. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church, Rolla, and a graduate of the Vienna High School. Following his graduation from high school, Ronnie entered into active federal service in the United States Navy on June 9, 1952, at St. Louis, Missouri, and successfully completed his basic naval training and advanced training becoming an Electrician Apprentice. During his naval career, his most significant duty assignment was serving aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Oriskany, doing electrical maintenance. Ronnie served a total of 1 year, 10 months, and 29 days at sea, and was honorably discharged on November 29, 1954, at San Diego, California, at the rank of Electrician Mate, Third Class. Ronnie's "Honorable Discharge" is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to the United States of America.
During his working life following his naval service, Ronnie was a self-employed "Handyman" in various areas of home improvements, home repairs, electrical work, general maintenance, and repairing and servicing various types of appliances. Later in his life, he owned and operated the Liesman Appliance and Service Center, Vienna, for a number of years. After moving to Rolla, Ronnie continued working as a home maintenance person until failing health in 2013.
Those left to mourn the passing of Ronnie include: His daughter and son-in-law, Carin and John Kovacs, Pendleton, Kentucky; his brother and sister-in-law, Arnold and Doris Liesman, Weldon Spring, Missouri; nephews; nieces; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank, on August 17, 1970; his mother, Minnie, on February 18, 1972; two brothers, Charles W. Liesman on May 4, 2001, and Hugh F. Liesman on January 7, 1999; and one sister, Mary Chambers on January 26, 2006.
Visitation for Mr. Liesman will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, October 11, 2014, in the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with a benediction prayer at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel by the Rev. Kenneth Campbell.
Family and friends will then go in procession to the Vienna Public Cemetery for graveside and interment services for Mr. Liesman with the Rev. Kenneth Campbell, Second Baptist Church, Rolla, officiating, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Pallbearers for Mr. Liesman will be Gregory Liesman, Michael Liesman, Steven Liesman, Sandra Jensen, and Deborah Samons.
