Ruby Lucille Acord, of Dixon, MO, was born on February 24, 1924, at Washington, Missouri, a daughter of Chester Sherman and Minnie Margaret Matilda (Pointer) Jett, and departed this life at 1:20 p.m., on Monday, July 24, 2017, in Maries Manor Health Care Center, Vienna MO. Ruby had been in failing health for some time and had attained the age of 93 years and 5 months.
Ruby was united in marriage to James Harlan Acord on June 11, 1949, at Ely, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, on December 11, 1988; one son, Kenneth Virgil Acord on July 31, 2004; daughter-in-law Cathy Acord, on December 12, 2016; two grandsons, Brian Acord and Jason Acord; her father, Chester on June 27, 1972; her mother Minnie on June 9, 1969; five brothers, Bernard Jett, Clifford Jett, Gilbert Jett, Vernon Jett and Arvil Jett; and three sisters, Cora Johnson, Elsie LaVal, and Delores Baldauf.
Ruby had accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Personal Savior early in life on an Indian reservation in Roosevelt Utah. At the time of her passing she was a member of Victory Hill Baptist Church, near Dixon MO, where she had been a faithful member and musician until her health no longer permitted. For the past 50 years Ruby had been a pianist at New Salem Baptist Church and later at Victory Hill Baptist Church. Prior to her retirement she was employed at the Brown Shoe Company, Dixon, MO, and the L.B. Manufacturing Company in Iberia, MO. She was a devoted housewife, mother and homemaker. For many years Ruby was a member of Rainbow Chapter No. 263 Order of the Eastern Star in Vienna MO. She enjoyed playing the piano at the Dixon Senior Center; travelling, raising flowers, singing, and being with her children.
Those left to mourn the passing of Ruby include: One son, Dennis Acord and wife Judy, Jefferson City; three daughters; Loretta McKinnon and husband Charlie, Leona Rivera and husband Robert, Rebecca "Becky" Bowser and husband, Brian, all of Dixon MO; one step-son, Robert Acord and wife Suzanne, of Hartman, Arkansas; one step-daughter, Carol Blackard of Clarksville, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Jamie Acord, Glendale "Petie" Acord, and Amy Brinkley, all of Dixon MO; four step grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, Emma Brinkley; eleven step-great-grandchildren; special friends John and Kathy Vaught, Dixon MO; and many other relatives and friends.
