Obituary

Terry Winston Alexander, of Richland, formerly of Dixon, was born November 13, 1943, at Waynesville, a son of Winston Willard and Caroline Ann (Amick) Alexander, and departed this life on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at the family farm near Richland. Terry had attained the age of 74 years, 1 month, and 8 days.

Terry had accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Personal Savior and had followed his Lord in baptism at the First Baptist Church in Dixon, where he was a faithful member, deacon, and Sunday school teacher. Terry was a 1961 graduate of the Dixon High School and member of the "Bulldogs" basketball team. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Hydraulics (a branch of science that deals with practical applications of liquid in motion) from the Rolla School of Mines (later UMR and now MOS&T) and continued his studies receiving a Master's Degree in Computer Science from there as well.

On June 3, 1968, at St. Louis, Terry entered in active federal service in the Army of the United States and served until March 6, 1970, when he was honorably discharged at Fort Lewis, Washington, at the rank of Specialist Four. During his military career, he was assigned to Company C, First Battalion, 11th Infantry (WANX CO), First Brigade, Fifth Infantry Division and was awarded and entitled to wear the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Combat Medal, 1 O/S Bar, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Expert M-14 Rifle Badge, and the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious achievement in the Republic of Vietnam from June 27, 1969, to November 26, 1969. A man of excellent character, Terry's "Honorable Discharge" is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to his country during the Vietnam War.

During his working life, Terry was first employed by the United States Geological Survey in St. Louis as a Hydraulic Engineer for eight years and transferring with them to Rolla, where he finished his career and retiring from there in 1997. The Alexander family purchased their farm in 1972, and Terry continued working there with his family, raising cattle and farming, until his untimely death. His favorite activities were going to church, being with his family, working, farming, going to the MFA to visit with friends, and just being good to people in general.

Those left to mourn the passing of Terry include: His loving mother, Caroline Alexander, of Dixon; his brother, Larry Alexander and wife, Jeanne, of Richland; his sister, Teresa A. Alexander, of Dixon; his niece, Jami D. Alexander-Zolt and husband, Sam, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; his nephew, Larry Brett Alexander and wife, Jenny, of Richland; his great-nieces and nephew, twins Ellie Zolt and Harrison Zolt, and Eva Alexander; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Winston Alexander, on December 3, 2012.
