Terry Dean Holtsclaw, of Dixon, was born on March 11, 1956, at Garden City, Kansas, the son of Earl Dean and Joyce Marie (Sager) Holtsclaw, and departed this life at 9:31 p.m., on Thursday evening, June 4, 2015, in the Mercy Hospital, Springfield. Terry had endured a number of health issues in the past several years and had attained the age of 59 years, 2 months, and 23 days.
Terry was united in marriage on June 4, 1983, at Dixon, to the former Miss Natalie Dean Asmus, and to this union, two sons were born. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce, on May 24, 1998.
Terry had accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Personal Savior, and had followed his Lord in baptism, while attending the First Baptist Church in Dixon, and at the time of his passing, he had been attending the Kenner Church of God, near Dixon, for the past several years. Terry was a former member of the Oak Hills Country Club in Dixon and was always a person interested in his community and improving the area he called home. For many years, he was actively involved in the Dixon Youth Recreational Association (DYRA), not only as a spectator at Dixon youth sporting events, but in the coaching and the umpiring of youth sporting events as well.
During his working life, Terry was a talented individual with a great work ethic and a personality to go with it. He never knew a stranger, made many friends, knew how to talk to people, and always remembered people by their name. Terry was the owner and operator of a food, games, and outdoor recreational business in Dixon known as the Sportsmen Center for a number of years prior to being employed by the U.S. Government as a recreational manager at the Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area for many years, as well as numerous other endeavors, as long as his health permitted. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf, repairing guns and reloading, shooting matches, playing cards, and watching Cardinal baseball.
Those left to mourn the passing of Terry include: His devoted wife, Natalie Holtsclaw, of the home near Dixon; two sons, Will Holtsclaw and wife, Emily, of Koeltztown, and Joe Holtsclaw and fiancée, Kelsey Kempf, of Dixon; his father, Earl Holtsclaw, of Dixon; one sister, Sherry Sears, and husband, Charles "Chuck", state of South Dakota; nephews; nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation for Terry will be held in the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes at 105 East Third Street from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Monday evening, June 8, 2015, and from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday morning, June 9, 2015.
Funeral services will be conducted for Terry at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday morning, June 9, 2015, in the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes at 105 East Third Street with the Pastor Beverly Sharp officiating.
Interment for Terry will be near his beloved mother in the Pisgah Cemetery, near Dixon, under the direction of the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Pallbearers for Terry are Kevin Shepherd, Tommy Shelton, Mike McKinnon, Rodney Wade, Tommy Nichols, Gerry Lewis, Chee Whitaker, and Sam Hayes, and honorary pallbearers are Matt Holtsclaw, Timmy Holtsclaw, and Rodney Holtsclaw. .
