Virginia Sages Duffin, of Vienna, was born June 18, 1919, in New York City, New York, the daughter of Michael and Theresa (Marketta) Sages, and departed this life at 5:02 p.m., on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at her residence near Vienna. She had attained the age of 94 years, 4 months, and 12 days.
Mrs. Duffin was united in marriage on October 5, 1941, at Mt. Vernon, New York, to Henry Michael "Red" Duffin, and they shared 69 years of happiness together. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Gerard Sages; and two daughters-in-law, Beverly Jane Duffin and Diana Duffin.
Mrs. Duffin was an active member of the Visitation Catholic Church. She had lived in New York for 58 years prior to moving to Vienna with her husband in 1977. During her working life, Mrs. Duffin was a devoted housewife, homemaker, and a diligent person in providing for the needs of her family.
Those left to mourn the passing of Virginia include: four sons and two daughters, Woody and Nadine Duffin, Lenexa, Kansas; Brian and Wanda Duffin, Pagosa Springs, Colorado; Deidre and Terry McGuigan, Poughkeepsie, New York; Mark Duffin, Pacific; Craig and Teresa Duffin, Berthoud, Colorado; and Danae and Tim Stuertz, St. Charles; eight grandchildren, Sean and Evan McGuigan; Mackenzie Spradlin, Timothy, Thomas and Kyle Duffin; and Olivia and Elise Stuertz; one great-granddaughter, Molly Elizabeth McGuigan; one brother, Royce and Mary Sages, Jupiter, Florida; and other relatives and friends.
Private graveside funeral services and interment were conducted for Mrs. Duffin, on Friday, November 1, 2013, in the Visitation Cemetery, Vienna, with the Rev. Msgr. Marion J. Makarewicz officiating, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Honorary pallbearers were all of Mrs. Duffin's grandchildren: Sean McGuigan, Evan McGuigan, Mackenzie Spradlin, Timothy Duffin, Thomas Duffin, Kyle Duffin, Olivia Stuertz, Elise Stuertz, and great-granddaughter, Molly Elizabeth McGuigan.
