Virginia
Redel
Oct 8, 1926 — Sep 4, 2020
Virginia Elizabeth Redel, of Vienna, was born on October 8, 1926, at Vienna, a daughter of George James and Agnes Frances (Bade) Redel, and departed this life at 9:05 p.m., on Friday, September 4, 2020, in St. Joseph's Bluffs, Jefferson City. She had attained the age of 93 years, 10 months, and 26 days.
Virginia was baptized at Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Vienna. She was a lifelong, faithful, and dedicated member of the church serving in various capacities through the years being the parish bookkeeper, completing required church and diocesan reports, assisting with the church bulletin, serving as the church sacristan, and other tasks such as keeping the church candles trimmed, laundering the altar clothes, and custodial work in the church.
Virginia was a 1944 graduate of the Vienna High School, and following her graduation from school, she became employed, the same year, at the Maries County Bank when there was only a staff of three people. Virginia was a dedicated and valued employee of the bank for seventy years, retiring in 2014. One might ask, what was her retirement position title at the bank? She did not really have one, and the reason being, Virginia could do anything there was to do at the bank after seventy years.
In addition to her church activities, Virginia and her mother, Agnes, were continually hosting delicious homecooked meals for the pastor of their church and visiting priests. She especially enjoyed bowling and was in a bowling league for many years along with Louise Chambers, Norma Tackett-Rhoads, Virgie Terry, and others as well.
Those left to mourn the passing of Virginia include: Two sisters and one brother, Mary Hefferly of Washington, D.C.; Jane (Ralph) Sordyl of Springfield, Illinois; and Jim (Jeanne) Redel of Vienna; a multitude of nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, George, on November 11, 1963; her mother, Agnes, on May 22, 1994; three sisters and five brothers, Margaret (Richard "Muncy" on October 28, 1975) Jones on February 1, 2012; Marcella Redel on May 24, 2003; George (Irene on December 5, 2009) Redel on May 22, 1982; Adrian (Rose on April 13, 2015) Redel on July 5, 2001; Owen (Bonnie on December 2, 2009) Redel on November 11, 2011, Cornelius "Con" (Betty on April 7, 2020) Redel on September 5, 2008; Kathleen Genevieve Redel on September 11, 1920, at age 7 months; and John Jerome Redel on July 12, 1927, at age 3 years;
