Obituary

Vivian Kay Slaton-Atana, of Freeburg, formerly of Eminence, was born on August 10, 1955, at Belleville, Illinois, a daughter of Edward James and Bonnie Charlene (Schultz) Slaton, and departed this life on Saturday, December 14, 2013, at her residence in Freeburg. Vivian had attained the age of 58 years, 4 months, and 4 days.

Vivian was united in marriage to William Atana, who preceded his wife in death. She was also preceded in death by her father; her maternal grandfather; her paternal grandparents; and her maternal uncle.

Vivian had been employed as a corrections officer for the Missouri Department of Corrections, Jefferson City, for twenty years retiring in 2006 due to health problems.

Those left to mourn the passing of Vivian include: Her mother, Bonnie Slaton, Eminence; one sister, Dianne Lynn Silva, Pomona; two brothers, Edward James Slaton, Jr. and Mark Edgar Slaton, both of Eminence; her maternal grandmother, Lillian Lowery, Kalispell, Montana; her maternal aunt, Darlene Fritz, Kalispell, Montana; nephews; nieces; other relatives; and friends.

Private family funeral services will be held for Vivian near Eminence in Shannon County. Arrangements are by the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.

Memorial contributions are suggested by the family of Vivian to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals with envelopes available at the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
