Wayne Arden Sloan, of Dixon, was born on October 30, 1939, at Lebanon, in Laclede County, a son of Clell and Frona May (Davis) Sloan, and departed this life at 12:28 p.m., on Thursday, May 26, 2016, in the Dixon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He had been in failing health for some time and had attained the age of 76 years, 6 months, and 26 days.
Wayne was first united in marriage to the former Miss Allie Fay Barnhart, who preceded her husband in death on March 24, 1969. He was later united in marriage on May 9, 1970, to the former Miss Amanda Joyce Martin, at the residence of her parents near Dixon, with her father, Rev. Charles C. Martin, performing the ceremony.
Wayne had accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior early in life and had followed his Lord in baptism. He was a faithful member of the Santee Community Church, near Dixon, where he had served in the Sunday school ministry, the youth ministry, and other areas of ministry of the church for over 47 years. In addition to his church work, the activities Wayne really enjoyed during his life included family events, traveling, fishing, and especially selling cars. During his working life, he had been the co-owner, along with his wife, Joyce, and operator of Sloan's Used Cars, near Dixon, beginning in1977 and continuing for over 37 years until their retirement on December 31, 2014.
In addition to his first wife, Wayne was also preceded in death by his father, Clell, on January 21, 1989; his mother, Frona, on March 15, 1999; and one brother, Leroy Sloan, on October 23, 2007.
Those left to mourn the passing of Wayne include: His beloved wife of over 46 years, Joyce Sloan, of the home near Dixon; his family, Danny Martin and wife, Judy, of Wentzville, Chet Sloan of Portland, Oregon, Craig Sloan and wife, Kristy, of Springfield, and Alora Thomas and husband, Timothy, of Imperial; nine grandchildren, Sam Martin, Corban, Kenna, Annalise, Ayla, Zion, Eden, and Mercy Thomas, and Luke Corse; one great-granddaughter, Marley Corse; two sisters, Lorene Carter, Springfield, and Willow Johnson, Middle Brook; one brother, Steve Sloan and wife, Cheryl, of Jefferson City; and a host of other relatives and friends.
