William Hayes Asher (Bill), was born July 21, 1931, in Cape Girardeau, MO to Clyde Gentry and Mildred Virginia (Hayes) Asher. He departed this life at the age of 87 on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 in Jefferson City, MO after a brief illness. Preceding him in death are his parents and his youngest son Timothy, his twin brother Robert L. Asher, his older brother Harold C. Asher and nephew Steve Asher.
On January 26, 1951, Bill joined the Marine Corps of the United States and served until January 25, 1954, when he was honorably discharged at the rank of Sargent. He was entitled to wear the Korean Service Medal with three ribbons, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Navy Occupation Service Medal. Bill was proud of his service to our great country and was humbled and thankful to be included on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in 2017.
Following his return from Korea, Bill attended the Kansas City Art Institute. While still in school he met and married his beloved wife of 64 years, Amy Jean Swarthout of Vienna, MO. Together they raised three children, Amy Diane, Jonathon William and Timothy Robert. Bill enjoyed a successful career as a Commercial Interior Designer in Kansas City, Dallas and Tulsa where he opened his own firm, William Asher Associates. He worked on several projects for Oral Roberts at ORU as well as the Fourth National Bank of Tulsa. In semi-retirement in the early eighty's he worked on design projects for Home Savings and Loan in Jefferson City and Maries County Bank in Vienna, MO.
Bill is survived by his wife Jean of Vienna, daughter Diane(Steve Jaynes) of Tulsa, OK, son Jon(Patty) of Bartlesville, OK, and sister Virginia Haar of Jefferson City. He was very proud of and thoroughly loved by his five grandchildren; thrilled to have eight great-grandchildren; and much loved by many, many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2019, with his funeral service following at 11:00 a.m., all in the Rader United Methodist Church, 104 US Highway 63 North, Vienna, Missouri 65582.
Internment, with full military honors, will be in the Rader Cemetery, Vienna, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home in Vienna.
In lieu of flowers memorials for Bill may be made to Rader United Methodist Church-Audio/Video Fund with envelopes available at the Church or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 250, Vienna, Missouri 65582, or to Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry 202 Hwy 63 South Vienna, MO 65582
