Obituary

Winifred Mable Terry, of Vienna, was born on December 3, 1919, near Dixon, in Maries County, a daughter of Perry E. and Pearl (Roberson) Martin, and departed this life at 1:02 p.m., on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, in the Maries Manor Health and Rehabilitation Center, Vienna. "Wimpie", as Mrs. Terry was affectionately called, had been in failing health for some time and had attained the age of 94 years, 11 months, and 1 day.

Mrs. Terry was united in marriage on December 3, 1936, at Vienna, to Lester Leo Terry, and to this union, three children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 13, 1983; one daughter, Pearl Jean Terwilliger, on September 9, 1959; her son, Harold Wayne Terry, on January 19, 2012; one grandson, Ricky Allen Tewilliger, on February 8, 2005; her father, Perry, on June 19, 1982; her mother, Pearl, in year of 1946; three brothers, Rockford, Elmer, and Adrian Martin; two sisters, Martha Dambach and Isola Jordan; and her special puppy "MeeMee", who is pictured with her in 2001.

Mrs. Terry had accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Personal Savior and was baptized at the age of 17 years while attending the Terry Baptist Church, south of Vienna. She was currently a member of the First Baptist Church in Vienna. Mrs. Terry was a willing worker in the kitchen at church and had assisted with the organizing of many funeral dinners throughout her life by providing food and helping with the preparation of the meal.

During her working life, she was employed in 1949 by the Brown Shoe Company in Dixon, which was about a year after Brown Shoe came to the town of Dixon, and worked there until 1959, when she became a full time housewife, homemaker, and care provider as long as she was able. Could we ask, "Did Wimpie ever retire?" I don't think so, because she enjoyed life and just kept on going until the very end.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Terry include: One daughter, Alma Rains, Vienna; one brother and sister-in-law, Donley and Virginia Martin, Dixon; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Terry at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, November 7, 2014, in the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with her grandson-in-law, Pastor Dan Jones, First Baptist Church, Cambridge City, Indiana, officiating.

Interment was in the Vienna Public Cemetery under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Pallbearers for Mrs. Terry were Steve Rains, Bruce Terwilliger, Dan Jones, Caleb Holman, Mitchell Jones, and Mark Buschmann.

Memorial contributions are suggested by the family of Mrs. Terry to the St. Jude's Hospital for Children with envelopes available at the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
